Status Quo set for new record

STATUS Quo took to the skies in Spitfires yesterday to launch a record-breaking concert blitz of Britain to raise £250,000 for children's charities.

Veteran rockers Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt touched down dressed like Biggles at RAF Northolt, west London, in two of the few surviving Mark-9 two-seater Second World War planes.

The rock stars, who earlier this year celebrated 25 years together, will play four stadium concerts in 12 hours around Britain, starting on September 21.

Their theme: Rock Till You Drop.

Said Rossi as he stepped from his aircraft: "It will be hard work, but we are in training."

They will be jetted and helicoptered around the country to play one-hour shows at Sheffield, Glasgow, Birmingham and Wembley arena to publicise their new album.

The rocking marathon should land them in the 1993 Guinness Book of Records, according to founder editor Norris McWhirter.

"We have never had one like it which has beats per hour rather than miles per hour."
