'BROKE' ROCK STAR FINED

ROCK star Rick Parfitt pleaded poverty yesterday when he was fined for drunken driving.

The Status Quo guitarist was ordered to pay £350 with £100 costs and disqualified for four years. But his solicitor told London's Bow Street magistrates that Parfitt, 36, needed time to find the money.

"He is living off a substantial overdraft because his twice-yearly royalties cheque for a sum difficult to estimate has not yet arrived," he said.

Parfitt, from Battersea, South London, who was stopped by police in Mayfair, was given eight weeks to pay.

After the hearing Parfitt, who was banned for a similar offence in 1979, said: "It's a bit steep.
