STATUS QUO 'ROLL OVER LAY DOWN' (VERTIGO) ****

QUO'S 13TH anniversary souvenir issue. On, the reverse are 'Gerdundula' and 'Junior's Wailing'. The fact that the live recording was done at the Kursaal in Southend and Trentham Gardens, Stoke on Trent, says quite a lot about the band. Never exactly a critics' favourite, nor the sort of band that calls in gangs of their famous mates to overdub famous noises onto their records, Quo really are a people's band. Gig anywhere and you'll find Quo freaks - last weekend in Nottingham one of the operators of the disco equipment I was using dropped into his boogie king posture as soon as the first notes of this maxi-singie rang out. You know what they do, they know what they do - and I suspect that, 13 years on, they still enjoy doing it. That makes them lost about unique. The re-recording of the album favourite comes in a handsome coloured sleeve - and what about those sleeve notes!
