STATUS QUO found the receptive audience I've seen in a long time at the Sundown, Mile End, last week.
I last saw the band two years ago and although the music hasn't changed much, the band have developed a series of spontaneous/ rehearsed stage movements with their guitars/phallic symbols in prominent display.
This didn't add much to the music but it seemed to drive the crowd wild. The band are a little heavier than before and their material is now more funky than bluesy but there wasn't anything musically adventurous in the act although there were some well worked out harmony guitar breaks.
My final impression was of a band who are very together but which lack any particular writing or performing skill to lift them above the competition. - RAY HAMMOND.
