It's the same old story...
STATUS QUO: "What You're Proposing" (Phonogram). Rockpile with waistcoats, the odd Italian surname and bleached denims. Like every self-conscious groover, it took me years to overcome a snotty antipathy to Status Quo. Time, now, I suppose, to come out of the closet and shake their hands. After a deceptively lazy start, lightning strikes. The acoustic guitars fall away and Rossi and Parfitt plug into a familiar trilling riff. More dandruff on the collar; but it makes a change from Sunsilk sweetness. Not quite the classic clout of "Whatever You Want", but the accelerating tempo on the home run is neatly handled.
