LAST year they played late afternoon and stole the show, this year they were higher up the bill and played an encore that they scarcely deserved or were afforded.
We've come to expect good things from Status Quo, accepted that they have been a little maligned and sensed the goodness from within - but although they just about held on to their audience at Reading they were far from convincing and the applause didn't warrant an encore.
The band opened with all their trump cards and like a marathon runner who sets too fast a pace early in the race, they couldn't keep it up and there was nothing to follow greats like 'In My Chair', 'Railroad' and 'Don't Waste My Time'.
This was really the turning point and even allowing for the fact that someone was slightly out of tune Francis Rossi's solos began to plod and meander as the band wandered about the stage as though searching for some thing - perhaps the lost chord. 'Is It Really Me' was probably the worst number of all and scarcely entitled the band to come back even
