STATUS QUO rock star Francis Rossi and his girlfriend Paige Taylor had to leap for their lives when a crazed woman motorist tried to run them down, it was revealed yesterday.

The hate attack came as 38-year-old Rossi and Indian-born beauty Paige, 24, were crossing a street in Manchester.

He said: "A car suddenly headed right for us in the middle of the road with its horn blaring.

"We had to jump out of the way. I just took it to be a crazy driver, but then the car followed us down a side street.

"A woman jumped out and started shouting abuse at Paige, calling her a nigger and a black bitch."

Rossi discovered the reason for the fright last month was a vendetta between the woman and Paige's family.

Misery

He went on: "She has been trying to make Paige's life a misery. She seems to hold a grudge against her for a court case involving her father, although he was cleared."

The vendetta is the latest drama in the life of the one-time hell-raising singer.

Last week, father-of-four Rossi revealed the "proudest day of my life" - when his 20-year- old son Simon took him aside and confessed he was gay.
