IF there was anthing [sic] more disheartening about the fall-out from Live Aid than the apparent politicisation of Spandau Ballet, it was the belief engendered in groaning old troupers like Status, Quo that there was, after all, a place for them in the Eighties. Despite their own belief that they had taken it as far as it would go, the sentimental public response to Quo that fateful afternoon at Wembley convinced Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt that they should return to active duty, and, surviving the court case brought against them by their former bass player Alan Lancaster, the group was firing again on all fronts in 1986. As if nothing they had ever previously produced was bad enough to haunt us to the end of our days, their nightmarish Supertramp pastiche, "In The Army Now", was one of those records from which there was no escape during the latter months of the year. Bob Geldof still has a lot to answer for.
