SEVEN BIG VENUES

STATUS QUO undertake a short British concert tour in May, visiting seven of this country's leading venues. The itinerary comprises Bristol Colston Hall (May 6), Bournemouth Winter Gardens (10), Manchester Belle Vue (12), Glasgow Apollo Centre (14), Newcastle City Hall (19), Birmingham Odeon (22) and — as previously exclusively reported by NME - Wembley Empire Pool (26). Box-offices at all venues will be open by tomorrow (Friday).

The Wembley concert is being video-taped for subsequent screening both in Britain and abroad. And for Quo's Manchester gig, the Belle Vue stage is being specially rebuilt to give the entire audience a completely unhindered view.

Because of the band's extensive overseas and recording commitments, these are expected to be their only British dates this year. Quo left this week for Switzerland, where they commence a major European tour in Montreux on Saturday — they will be playing in major centres, mainly in France and Germany, until April 30.

To coincide with their British dates, the group's new album — their first since the chart-topping "Hello" — is released by Vertigo on May 3. Titled "'Quo", it includes eight new group compositions.
