STATUS QUO
Twelve Golden Bars Vols 1 & 2 (Vertigo)
NUT NODDING unlimited. A double quota of Quo that includes every ring-pull approved hit from 'Paper Plane' through to the slice of dodgy Dion that's 'The Wanderer'. OK, I know that Rossi's one-time lock danglers influence on the course of rock history has been zilch and that they survived on more permutations of the three-chord trick than any other Reading regulars (remember Reading ?). But, like Slade and ZZ Top, they've always mixed the heavy with the happy and managed to look as though they were actually enjoying themselves as they tunefully chortled their current hook of the month. Rock should rear more such sons of succotash. In the meantime, here's a great, party-going reminder of the Quo's way of flings. - Fred Dellar
