Four years ago, John Shearlaw's authorised biography of Status Quo was reworked as the band's 20th anniversary edition. Now here is the "25th Anniversary Edition" (Sidgwick & Jackson, £8.95), which suggests that Quo live rather faster than the rest of us. The book scarcely needs reviewing: it updates the previous editions, adds more photographs of the 'lads' in mid-boogie and, to its credit, does go some way towards explaining the recent differences between the original band members. As you would expect, the book takes the official line on all the band's early records, so you'll find rather more about their pre-1972 career in this magazine than you will in the biography. But for fans, it's not a bad read.
